The beauty and mystique of Chinese symbolism is what makes many people want to have a Chinese tattoo. Chinese culture is what it is today through it's thousands of years of myth and legend, and as a result many Chinese proverbs have been inked on human skin.

Gaining enormous popularity is the Chinese character tattoo, due to celebrities like the famous english soccer player David Beckham, who recently unveiled an ancient Chinese proverb tattooed on his torso which reads: "Death and life have determined appointments. Riches and honour depend upon heaven." The tattoo is inked in a ancient grass script which to most native Chinese speakers is almost unreadable, but as with all tattoos their purpose is that it means something to you and you alone.
