THESE figures show the huge task ahead as we try to fix Gordon Brown's debts.

Spending cuts simply have to happen - whether the unions like it or not.

But while the Chancellor cuts the public sector to size, he has to remember his promises about growth.

The best way of avoiding much of the pain outlined by the OBR is to grow.

The fitter the UK economy, the more tax flows into the Treasury coffers, the more jobs are created by private sector firms.

We should thank our lucky stars we're not trapped in the Eurozone. But it counts for nothing unless George Osborne puts his words about growth, his vision about "Made in Britain", into practice.
