Gunners join Downing hunt - The Sun
ARSENAL have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Aston Villa star Stewart Downing.
SunSport understands the Gunners are weighing up an an 18million bid for the England winger as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his squad for next season.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish had a 15m offer for Downing turned down earlier this month, with Villa valuing the 26-year-old nearer the 20m mark.
But it appears Arsenal have moved ahead of their Premier League rivals in the race to sign the highly-rated midfielder.
Downing moved to Villa Park from Middlesbrough two years ago in a 12m deal and has since made 63 league appearances, scoring nine goals.
