One won £162m - The Sun

ONE British ticket last night clinched Europe's biggest ever lottery jackpot of 162MILLION.

The EuroMillions bounty of 161,653,000 was finally won after the top prize went unclaimed for 14 consecutive draws.

If the ticket is held by a single punter, it would catapult them into 430th place in the UK rich list.

They would be wealthier than Beatles legend RINGO STARR, who has a 150million fortune, Welsh singer TOM JONES, worth 140million, and nearly as well off as the BECKHAMS, who are worth 165million.

Last night's numbers were 17, 19, 38, 42, 45, with Lucky Stars 09 and 10.

Europe's previous biggest win was 128.3million scooped in Italy's Super-Enalotto in 2009.

It smashes the UK's previous top win of 113million - scooped by an anonymous punter in October last year. A National Lottery spokesman last night said: "This is amazing news. We are absolutely delighted that a UK ticket holder has scooped the entire jackpot.

"This is the biggest winner this country, and Europe, has ever seen. We've got the champagne on ice and look forward to welcoming the ticket-holder or holders into the National Lottery millionaires' club."

Two UK tickets also won 1,799,995 for matching five numbers and a Lucky Star.

The top prize in the EuroMillions draw is limited to 185million. This originally meant a fortune of 166million - but yesterday equated to 162million due to the euro exchange rate.

Camelot last night said the immense prize had not yet been claimed.

A spokesman said: "There is a strict process to be followed although this is uncharted territory.

"They will be assigned an adviser to talk to about if they want to go public.

"We will give them plenty of time to decide what they want to do."

Their cash will grow quickly - earning 9,323 per day in interest, equivalent to 3,403,000 a year.

Piling the jackpot prize in a stack of 50 notes would create a tower nearly as tall as London's iconic Big Ben.
